toby and barbri
i was elated to be done with law school when i took my last final exam on the 9th. but the excitement and joy was short-lived. a week and a half later, i was back at st. john's sitting in one of the large lecture halls, typing furiously while trying to absorb the professor's wisdom: bar review had begun.
i can't believe i'm supposed to be preparing for the bar exam already. not that i think i'm studying too soon (the exam is in july), but that i've come to this moment in time when i'm supposed to be sitting for the NY and NJ Bar. how can it be the eve of summer 2008 already!? every finals season for the past three years i've thought to myself, "this is it: the final countdown (gob!)." but i spoke too soon. this is truly the final count down: no room for mistakes or failure.
on a lighter note rosa and i (thanks to her allergic sister) got a dog last week, Toby. he's a scrappy yorkie with no discipline or manners whatsoever. but he's also extremely friendly, mischevious, and endearing. if only he were potty trained.
this morning, rosa found him in his gated area with shit smeared across all four corners. when she put him on my white couch to clean up the mess, he managed to smear his dirty butt across that too. he's lucky he's so cute.

Rule #1 when taking an Open Book Exam
HAVE YOUR OPEN BOOK.
I had my Conflicts of Law final exam today which was open book, meaning we could bring in our text book and class notes to refer to during the exam. Stupid me, I left one of my class outlines at home. :P
While everyone else had shitloads of material to refer to, I had one outline and my dinky classnotes. :(
wtf, who cares... 2 FINALS LEFT AND I'M DONE!

i'm not a quitter
i haven't decided to quit smoking. YET. Rosa's been bugging me since she (basically) quit last fall, but I don't feel the urge to stop smoking just yet. I know I have some stressful times ahead of me (i.e. when i'm job-hunting and studying for the bar exam), and I want to have the assurance that during these tense and stressful times, i'll be able to indulge in a wonderfully seductive cigarette. i know i'm being stupid, but whatever, man.. i needs my tobacco!

www.mytimtoquit.com has pointed out my Smoking Triggers:
Right now, my smoking triggers are:
When I drink coffee
When I drink wine or beer
After lunch or dinner
When I'm driving
When I'm with other smokers
When I'm waiting for a bus or train
When I feel anxious or stressed
Instead of smoking in these situations, try to:
Take a deep breath
Drink plenty of water
Call a friend
Have a healthy snack
Spend time in a public place where smoking is not allowed
It's gonna be hard to quit smoking while drinking coffee... i might as well try to give up coffee as well. nutsucker. at least i'd be saving lots of money, seeing as how i spend more money at starbucks in 1 week than i do on cigarettes...

Hillary Clinton for President

I fully endorse Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination. I think it's the chic thing for twenty somethings to support Barack Obama, since he's young and full of ambitious ideas--a rogue compared to today's politics...but overall, Clinton has the experience and record that I can rely on as the leader of the "free world." Obama is a novice with little experience and voting-record. It's easy for someone to claim that he/she will fight for this-and-that, but with such little experience, how can we be so sure? Every politician in history has made empty, but hopeful, promises. Barack Obama is the ideal candidate...if we were living in a utopian society. Clinton is a bit conservative in some aspects (i.e. war on Iraq), but i believe she has the gall/balls to lead our nation out of the Bush regime.
Albeit, Clinton's husband has been playing too much of a role in her aggressive campaign. Bill has probably done more harm than good. I'm hoping people will be able to see past her famous husband and consider Clinton as a serious candidate with real goals and ideas. I mean, even when he was President, Hillary had a very public and influential role in his presidency--behind every great man is an even greater woman, right?
Up until recently, I considered myself to be a conservative Republican (due to familial upbringing--ultra-conservative Korean-American parents), so that definitely plays a role in my choice of candidate. Seeing as how I now see myself as a moderate-Democrat, Clinton is the ideal choice. Think about it, even psycho-republican Ann Coulter said she would choose Clinton over John McCain (the likely Republican candidate).
I'm hoping the young people of American make educated decisions in the upcoming primaries, instead of "going with the flow" and voting for the "popular candidate." If you have a real conviction that Obama will be the best candidate to run for President, then by all means, vote for him and encourage your colleagues to do the same. But have some reasoning and knowledge to support your decision.
This upcoming presidential election is one of the most exciting and interesting occurrences in recent American political history --- I can't wait to see the results.

edumacation
I've been in school for twenty consecutive years. so what do i have to show for it? A lack of realistic views on the real world, thousands and thousands of dollars of debt, and Peter Pan syndrome.
